On an offset bracket, the steel arm outlasts the insulator by a long way. UV, frost cycling and the constant sawing of a wire under tension eventually crack or wear through the plastic, and when it goes the live wire drops onto the steel and shorts the whole fence to ground. These are the replacement pinlock insulators sold twenty-five to a pack, so you can renew a run of offsets rather than pulling out perfectly good brackets. The pinlock design holds the wire captive so it cannot jump out when an animal leans on it or when the wire is slack in summer heat. If you have a stretch of offsets that went in at the same time, they will fail at roughly the same time, so it pays to change them as a batch rather than chasing one short at a time. These fit Speedrite pinlock wire offsets. If you are running offsets from another maker or older stock, confirm against the bracket you have before ordering, since the pin diameter and body are not universal.
