Speedrite heavy duty cut-out switch
A heavy duty in-line switch that lets you kill power to one section of fence without shutting down the whole system.
Details
A cut-out switch is what turns a single large fence into something you can actually work on. Wire one into each major branch and you can drop power to the section you are repairing while the rest of the fence stays hot and the rest of the stock stays where they are. The heavy duty version is built for the current a large energizer puts down the line, with a blade and terminals sized to make solid contact rather than arcing. That matters, because a light switch on a big unit will pit its contacts, and a pitted contact is a resistive joint that quietly costs you voltage every day. On a big western operation the other use is fault finding. Rather than walking miles of line, you open switches one branch at a time and watch what the voltage does. The branch that brings the reading back up is the branch with the problem. Mount switches where you can find them in snow: on a post you can spot from the truck, flagged if need be, and high enough that they are not buried by February.
