Details
If you are rolling temporary fence in and out regularly, a geared reel is the difference between a two-minute job and a sore shoulder. This one runs 3:1 off a solid steel crank, so you get three turns of the spool for every turn of the handle, and it holds 500 m of polywire or 200 m of 12 mm politape. The details are what make it worth having. Wire tracking spreads the conductor evenly across the bobbin instead of piling it at one end, so it does not bind on the way back out. Drag adjustment stops the spool overrunning and tangling when you are walking a line out at any pace. The frame is isolated so power flows through the reel without the frame becoming live, and the hook design is built for stability whether it is hanging on a fence or on a quad. It is UV stabilised and Speedrite covers it with a three-year warranty. For rotational grazing where you are moving a wire every day or two, this is the reel to have. Wind it in dry when you can — poly rolled up wet and left overnight in freezing weather comes off the reel the next morning as one solid lump, and cold plastic is unforgiving of being forced.
