This is a fence-in-a-bag setup for horse people — the energizer, conductor, reel, posts and hardware bundled so you can put up a working paddock away from home without assembling the parts yourself. It suits rodeos, shows, trail rides, clinics and overnight stops, and it works just as well at home for a temporary turnout or a strip of grass you want grazed off. Horses need a fence they can see. Tape or a wide conductor and posts at sensible spacing give a horse something to read at a distance, which matters far more with horses than with cattle. A visible line that a horse respects is safer than a stronger fence it runs into. Set the ground rod properly — this is where portable kits get let down. A rod pushed a few inches into dry or frozen ground will not carry current back to the energizer, and a fence that will not shock is worse than no fence, because a horse learns it can be pushed through. Put the rod in wet soil where you can, drive it fully, and test the fence with a voltmeter before you turn a horse out.
