A floodgate is the weak point of any fence that crosses a creek, a slough edge or a low spot. The wire ends up in the water, the water grounds it out, and the whole system goes flat because of thirty feet of fence in a place nobody can keep clear. The energy limiter is the answer to that. Fitted between the main fence and the problem section, it limits the energy that can be drawn away by heavy growth or flooding. The section across the water can short out all it likes without dragging the voltage down on the rest of the system. The unit is fully sealed against insects and the environment, which it needs to be — it is by definition installed in the wettest place on the property. Out here that means spring runoff more than anything. A crossing that is dry ground in August is under a foot of water in April, and cattle turned out onto grass will find the fence that is not working before you do. Fit the limiter on the fence side of the crossing, keep the connections clean, and check the section again once the water goes down. It is also worth using where a fence line runs through willow or heavy regrowth you cannot get at with a mower.
