Most fences out here are built from whatever was on hand — wood posts on the corners and through the bush, steel T-posts down the straight stretches, and a few of each where somebody patched a wreck. A dual purpose insulator saves you carrying two kinds in the truck. This one mounts to a wood post or clips onto a standard T-post and uses a pinlock design, so the wire is captured properly rather than sitting in an open hook waiting to jump out. That matters more than it sounds. A wire that lifts out of an insulator in a wind and lies against a steel post is a dead short, and you will not find it from the yard — you will find it after the cattle do. Fit them at the same height down the run so the wire sits in a straight line, and do not pull the wire so tight that frost lifting a post drags it hard against the insulator body. Check the post sizes it is rated for against what you actually have in the ground before ordering, since T-post and wood post dimensions vary and a loose insulator will work its way off over a season of wind.
