Speedrite cut-out switch
Fence-mounted switch that isolates a section of electric fence, so you can shut off one run without killing power to the whole system.
Details
A cut-out switch lets you break the connection to a section of fence without shutting down the energizer. On any fence system bigger than a couple of paddocks, this is the difference between an afternoon of fault finding and ten minutes of it. The use is straightforward. Fit switches where the fence branches — at the start of each major run, at the head of a lane, ahead of any section that gives you trouble. When the voltage drops, you open switches one at a time until the reading comes back, and you have located the faulted section without walking the whole system. The other use is just as valuable: shut off the run you are working on and leave the rest of the fence live, so stock stay where they belong while you fix a broken wire. That matters more here than in easier country. A short from a poplar branch down on the line after a wind, or drifted snow bridging the bottom wire in a coulee, can take a whole system down. Being able to isolate the section and keep the home quarter hot until you can get to the fault is worth having. Mount the switch on a post at an accessible height and where you can see the on/off position from a truck window.
