Porcelain has been the material of choice for high-strain fence insulation for a long time, and for good reason. It does not track, it does not degrade in ultraviolet, and it does not go brittle and shatter the way cheap plastic does after a few seasons of forty-degree temperature swings. These bullnose insulators use a strong porcelain body and are sold ten to a pack. They work as both corner insulators and end-strain terminations, and they take polywire, polyrope or plain wire. They tie on with wire, which makes them simple to fit to wood posts, and they suit high tensile applications where a plastic insulator would creep under sustained load. Use them where the fence turns hard or terminates and the strain has nowhere else to go. That is exactly where fences fail in this country — a corner post lifted by frost, a wire pulled tight by a cold snap, and an insulator taking the whole load. When you tie one on, run the wire through the bullnose so the porcelain carries the tension, and keep the tail away from the post so you are not leaking current into wet or frozen wood.
