Details
Large two-piece tags are for animals you need to identify from a distance and keep identified for years. Cows and bulls, in other words, where the tag has to survive a decade of feeders, headgates and other cattle rather than one trip through a yard. Black is a deliberate choice rather than a default. It is rare enough that nothing else in the pen looks like it, which makes it useful as a pure colour code: a leased bull, a purchased group, a category everyone on the place has been told about. Be aware that a standard black tag marker will not show on a black tag, so if you want a written number you need a light coloured marker, and most outfits running black are letting the colour do the talking instead. The Z2 system is Datamars' two-piece design, with the tag and the Z2 tagger built to work together to reduce tearing as the tag goes through. Twenty-five complete sets per bag. These are management and visual identification tags, not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
