Details
Orange is a good western Canadian colour. It holds up visually against snow, mud and a brown winter pasture, and it is easy to pick out of a bunch at the feed ground when you are counting from the tractor. A lot of outfits use it for one calving year in a rotation, or for anything that needs watching. These come blank in a 25-pack. Number them with a livestock tag marker before you start so you are not writing in the cold with a mitt on. Blank tags also let you put a dam number on one side and a calf number on the other, which is handy at pairing-out time. The one-piece Z1 has no rivet or back button, so nothing sits behind the ear for wire, brush or a feeder to hook. The self-piercing tip makes a small clean cut that closes up around the stem, and the pivoting applicator pin keeps the ear from being held rigid while the tag goes through. Management and visual ID tags only.
