Details
These are the standard Z1 one-piece calf tags with no printing on them, so the numbering system is yours. Most people write them ahead with a livestock tag marker and sort them into the order the calves will run, which keeps things moving when you are working a big bunch on a cold morning. One-piece means there is no rivet or back button to fumble with in the chute. You load the tag on the pin, set it in the ear, and squeeze. The self-piercing tip cuts rather than punches, the applicator pin pivots so the ear is not held rigid, and the smooth back has nothing sticking out for wire or brush to grab. Blue is an easy colour to pick out at a distance and is a common pick for bull calves when yellow or pink is doing another job. Run it as one colour in a year-by-year rotation and you can age a cow across the pasture. Management and visual ID only, not a CCIA-approved tag.
