The mistake people make with sheep and goats is hanging cattle hardware in a much smaller ear. A tag that is too heavy pulls, tears and ends up in the bedding, and the animal is left with a split ear and no identification. The small animal size is the fix. This is the Z Tags one-piece No-Snag design scaled down. There is no separate button, the self-piercing tip makes its own clean opening, and the whole thing goes in with one squeeze of the one-piece applicator, which matters when you are working a lamb that has decided it would rather not. The one-piece back is smooth, so there is less for a fence, a feeder or a bramble to catch. Yellow blank is the practical starting point for a small flock. Number them yourself with a tag marker so the system can follow the ewe rather than a factory sequence, and write big enough to read across a pen at feeding. Place the tag between the cartilage ribs and well back from the edge. These are management and visual identification tags, not a substitute for an approved traceability tag.
