Red means stop, and in a feeding yard it generally means an animal that has been through the hospital pen. Pull a calf, treat it, tag it red, and from then on anybody riding pens knows that this one has already had a round of something and needs a closer look rather than a first guess. The value shows up in the second and third pull. A crew that changes through the season cannot carry treatment history in their heads, but they can read a colour, and the printed number then takes them straight to the right line on the treatment record. Chronics get identified faster and the decision to move an animal along gets made sooner. The box arrives numbered 1 to 1000 in sequence and factory printed, which suits a hospital setup where tags get applied one or two at a time over months rather than in one processing run. One-piece construction, self-piercing cutting tip, compact feedlot size, applied with the Z Tags one-piece applicator. Use them for management and visual identification. An approved CCIA tag is a separate requirement.
