Details
Yellow is the baseline. It is what most herds in this country run as the ordinary tag, and that is precisely what makes a colour system work at all. If yellow means nothing in particular, then every other colour in the pen means something specific, and you can read the herd without opening a book. It is also a genuinely good all-round colour. Yellow holds up against black and red hides, stays visible in green grass through summer, and shows against snow well enough to find a cow at a bale feeder in January. There is a reason it became the default rather than being chosen by committee. Buy it in quantity, because this is the colour you burn through. Fifty blank one-piece tags per bag in the compact Z Tags feedlot size, with the self-piercing tip that goes through the ear in one motion and no separate button to seat. Write your numbers with a tag marker, let them dry properly, and apply with the Z Tags one-piece applicator. They are visual identification and management tags. An approved CCIA tag is still required separately.
