Purple has one big advantage: it does not look like anything else. No matter how many colours are already in circulation on your place, nobody mistakes purple for red at dusk or for blue through dust, and that makes it the right choice for a category where a mistake actually costs money. Retained ownership is one. A group of calves already promised to a buyer, or a set you are holding back while the rest go down the road, is worth marking in a colour that cannot be misread by a hired hand loading a truck at six in the morning. Some outfits use it the same way for animals under a withdrawal period, where shipping the wrong one is a serious problem rather than a nuisance. The tags are Z Tags one-piece feedlot stock in the compact size, self-piercing so they go through the ear in one motion, with no separate button to lose in the bedding. Fifty blank per bag, marked with a tag marker and applied with the Z Tags one-piece applicator. They serve as management and visual ID only and are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
