Fall is when orange earns its money. Once the grass has gone brown and the light is flat by five in the afternoon, a lot of colours turn to mud at any distance. Orange stays orange, which is why so many outfits use it for the groups they are moving and sorting through the gather. A practical system is to tag by weaning group as the cattle come off different pastures. If everything from the north half comes home wearing orange, you can pull that draft out of a mixed pen by eye at the sale barn or in the corral without reading a single number. The number then confirms the individual once you have already got the right animal in front of you. These are Z Tags one-piece feedlot tags, the compact size that stays out of trouble in a crowded alley, with a self-piercing tip that goes through in a single squeeze of the one-piece applicator. Fifty blank tags per bag for your own numbering. Use them for management and visual identification. An approved CCIA tag is a separate requirement.
