The moment a herd needs two shades of the same colour is the moment the system has grown up. If pink already means heifer calves, rose gives you a second category that lives beside it without anyone having to squint at a number to tell the two apart. A common use is tracking the odd ones. Twins split onto different cows, a graft calf, a calf on a bottle for the first week, or anything with a history you will want to remember at weaning. Those animals rarely fit the main colour scheme and they are exactly the ones you forget by October if the tag does not say so at a glance. Light pink also has the advantage of standing out against black and red hides without disappearing into the brown of a dry pasture the way a tan or peach can.
