Most colour systems start simple and then fill up. Yellow is the herd, pink means one thing, red means another, and by the third year you have run out of bright colours that still mean something. Grey is the answer to that. It reads as ordinary from a distance, which makes it useful for the category you want on paper but do not need shouting at you across a pen. On a lot of places that ends up being bulls, or a set of cows on a separate wintering plan, or animals you are simply tracking through the year with no urgency attached. A grey tag with a heavy black number is easy to read once you are close and quiet from thirty yards, which is exactly right for that job. These are Z Tags one-piece feedlot tags in the compact size, self-piercing, applied with the Z Tags one-piece applicator. Fifty to a bag and blank, so you write your own numbers with a tag marker and give the ink time to set before the tags go to the chute. They are management and visual identification tags, not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
