Black is an unusual tag colour and it gets bought for specific reasons. It is unmistakable as a code, because nothing else in a yard looks like it, and it does not compete for attention the way a bright tag does. What it will not do is give you a high-contrast background for a hand-written number, so if the number is the point, one of the lighter colours is the better buy. Fifty blank tags to a bag is a practical size for a small backgrounding lot or a group that arrives untagged. Blank leaves the system entirely to you, whether that is a number, a letter for the arrival group, or nothing at all beyond the colour itself. The feedlot tag is lighter and shorter than the cow tags in the same line, built for identification through a feeding period rather than a lifetime in the ear.
