Red is a good flag colour on calves. Twins, a graft that took, a calf that had scours and needs watching, a calf on a bottle. Put red in the ear and whoever does the pasture check knows to look at that one properly instead of counting past it. The long neck version has more length between the ear and the flag than the standard calf tag, which is worth having on anything tagged in the first days of life. Ears grow, and a tag with room to move rides better through the summer. They come blank, twenty-five to a bag, so the numbering and any notation are yours. The tag is a single piece with the piercing tip on the point, applied in one squeeze. In a calving pen that means no loose parts to handle with wet gloves, and no button on the back of the ear to catch on a creep panel. These are management and visual identification tags. They are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
