Finding calves is the job chartreuse is best at. Once pairs are out on grass, a calf lying down along a slough edge or in a patch of willows is close to invisible until something bright catches your eye. Chartreuse is the loudest colour in the range and it does not disappear against green the way most of the others start to. This is the long neck version of the calf tag. The extra neck length gives the ear room to grow and thicken through the summer, so a tag put in during March calving is still hanging properly when the calf comes off the cow. Blank tags, twenty-five per bag, leave the numbering to you, which is what most cow-calf outfits want since calf numbers usually key off the dam. The one-piece design has the piercing tip moulded into the point. One squeeze and it is in, with no button to fumble for in a calving jacket pocket. These are management and visual identification tags. They are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
