Details
The long neck is the whole reason to buy this tag instead of the standard calf size. That extra length between the ear and the flag leaves room as the calf grows and the ear thickens, which matters when a tag goes in at a day old and still has to be sitting right at weaning. Blue is a good calving-barn colour. It contrasts hard against a white or tan newborn and against clean straw, so a tagged calf is obvious from the alley door and you are not walking the pen twice to work out who got missed overnight. Tags come blank, twenty-five to a bag, so you can write the dam number, the birth date, or whatever your system runs on. One piece with a self-piercing tip means one hand on the calf and one on the applicator, no button to load, and nothing on the back of a small ear to snag on a panel. These are management and visual identification tags. They are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
