On a feedlot tag the number is doing most of the work, and white gives the printed digits the cleanest background in the range. If your crew is reading numbers off cattle in the alley and calling them out, white is the colour they will misread the fewest times. The sequence runs one through a thousand, stamped at the factory. Working straight down the run keeps processing simple and keeps the yard sheet honest, because nobody is deciding numbers on the fly with a marker in a cold hand. The trade-off is that white does not separate from a snowy pen or from a white-faced calf the way a bright colour does, so it suits close reading better than counting a pen from the road. These are the lighter one-piece feedlot tags, meant for a feeding period rather than the life of the animal. Self-piercing point, single squeeze, no button to line up behind the ear. These are management and visual identification tags. They are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
