Details
Red is what most yards put in a pull. Once an animal has been treated you want to know it while walking past the pen, not after you have run her in again, and red is the one colour everybody on the crew reads the same way without a conversation about it. The numbering runs one through a thousand in sequence, stamped at the factory. Even on a hospital tag the number earns its keep, because a treatment record is only worth something if you can match it back to the animal months later when withdrawal dates matter. Red keeps good contrast against black hair and against a snowy pen, though it works hardest at moderate distance rather than across a whole field. The tag is the one-piece feedlot pattern, lighter than a cow tag and built for a feeding period. Self-piercing point, one squeeze of the applicator, no button on the back of the ear. These are management and visual identification tags. They are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
