Purple is not a colour anyone reaches for by accident, which is exactly why it works when cattle from different owners share a yard. Give one contract or one customer the purple tags and the ownership question answers itself from the fenceline, without pulling records or catching an animal to read a number. The set runs one through a thousand, stamped in order at the factory. That covers a large intake in a single sequence, so numbers do not repeat between groups and a stray found in the wrong pen can be put back where it belongs. The feedlot tag is the shorter, lighter one-piece tag, sized for identification through a feeding period rather than a lifetime in the ear. The point of the tag pierces as the applicator closes, so there is no button to load and nothing behind the ear to catch on a bunk or a crowd gate. These are management and visual identification tags. They are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
