Green holds up in a snowy yard. On a January receiving day when everything around it is white and grey, a green tag reads at distance and does not blur into the dirty yellow of straw and old bedding the way some lighter colours do. Numbers run one through a thousand in sequence, stamped rather than written, so the crew works down the strip in order and the number that goes in the ear is the number that goes on the sheet. No marker, no transcribing, no arguing three months later about whether that is a six or an eight. The feedlot tag is the shorter, lighter tag in the one-piece range, made for identifying cattle through a feeding period rather than for life. It carries the same self-piercing point as the rest of the line, so it seats in one squeeze with no back button to load, drop or line up on a cold morning. These are management and visual identification tags. They are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
