Details
A thousand consecutive numbers in one colour is how you handle volume. You are not choosing a number at the chute, you are pulling the next one off the strip and writing it on the sheet, which keeps a long processing day moving. Blue works well as a pen colour in a yard running several groups at once. It separates cleanly from yellow and orange down the alley, and it does not get mixed up with the red or pink most people reserve for treatment flags. Assign a colour per pen or per arrival group and a stray in the wrong pen is obvious from the fenceline without catching anything. Feedlot tags are a lighter, smaller tag than the cow tags, built for short-term identification rather than a lifetime in the ear. They are one piece with a self-piercing tip, so processing is one squeeze of the applicator with no button to load. These are management and visual identification tags. They are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
