Yellow is the default for a reason. It is bright without being loud, it shows up in green grass and in a dirty corral, and black marker on yellow stays legible about as long as any combination out there. If you are only going to run one colour on the cow herd, this is usually it. That also makes yellow useful as a baseline. Keep the mature cows in yellow and the odd colours start to mean something, whether that is a different bull, a different pasture, or a group of replacements. Every tag being a different colour tells you nothing. The tag is the mature cow size, a large flag with plenty of writing room, blank on both sides. One piece, no button, with the self-piercing tip built into the point so it goes in with one squeeze of the applicator and leaves nothing on the back of the ear to catch a feeder rail. These are management and visual identification tags. They are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
