Orange is a good western Canadian colour. It holds up visually against snow, mud and a brown winter pasture, and it is easy to pick out of a bunch at the feed ground when you are counting from the tractor. That is most of the year here, so plenty of herds end up running orange as their base colour and saving the odd shades for special groups. This is the mature cow size, a large flag with room for a number big enough to read at distance. Blank tags let you set the system rather than order into someone else's. The one-piece design has the self-piercing tip moulded into the tag itself, so it seats with one squeeze and leaves nothing hanging on the back of the ear to hook a brush pile or a headgate. These are management and visual identification tags. They are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
