Green earns its keep in winter. Against a snowed-in feed ground or a bunch of black cows on a bale, it separates cleanly, and it does not wash out under a grey January sky. Through summer it takes a little more looking, which is why a lot of people put green on a group they check less often, like dry cows or bulls out on grass. The tag is the mature cow size and comes blank, which suits an operation that already has its own numbering habits. Write the numbers on both sides while the bag is still sitting on the tailgate, not while the cow is standing in the chute. The one-piece body has the piercing tip built into the point, so it goes through in one squeeze of the applicator and there is no back button to line up or drop in the mud. These are management and visual identification tags. They are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
