Details
Chartreuse is the brightest thing you can hang in a cow's ear. It carries a long way across a big field, and it does not get lost against dark hair or wet ground the way a softer colour can. The flag is the full cow size, roughly three inches by four and a half, so a number written large stays readable from the seat of a truck. These come blank on purpose. Some outfits run a dam number, some run a year letter, some just want a spare bag in the barn for the tags that get ripped out in June. A marker and a steady hand is all it takes. The tag is one piece with a self-piercing tip, so there is no button to fumble with in the cold and nothing on the back of the ear to catch on a wire or a feeder rail. These are management and visual identification tags. They are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
