Details
The cow size is the big Z1 flag, noticeably larger than the calf tag, and it is the one you want in mature cows and bulls you need to identify from across a quarter section. More flag area means bigger numbers, and bigger numbers are the difference between reading a cow from the truck and having to get out and walk. These come blank, 25 to a package. Write them with a proper livestock tag marker, number both sides, and let them dry before you bag them. Blank tags let you run whatever system your records use, whether that is a straight herd number or a year prefix. Black gives strong contrast on a white-faced or light-coloured cow and is a useful odd colour when the rest of your herd runs yellow or white. The one-piece design means no rivet or back button to line up and nothing protruding behind the ear to catch on wire, brush or a feeder. These are management and visual ID tags, not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
