Details
Running pink for heifers and a second colour for bulls means you can sex-sort a pen of calves without touching one of them. It carries through to weaning and into the replacement pen, and it saves a lot of squinting at a book when you are sorting in the fall. These come pre-stamped in sequence out of the 1 to 200 range, so there is no writing to do before calving starts. Tag in order and record as you go. The numbers are stamped large and dark on the flag with a long neck below, which is what makes them readable from the truck or across an alley. The Z1 is a one-piece tag. There is no male button to seat and no back piece protruding behind the ear to catch on wire, brush or a feeder. The self-piercing tip makes a small incision that closes in around the tag stem rather than punching a plug out. These are management and visual identification tags, not approved traceability tags.
