Details
Orange is hard to lose. Against snow, brown grass or a muddy feed ground it stays visible when quieter colours wash out, which is why a lot of places use it for the calves they want to be able to find: bought-in animals, treated ones, or one year in a colour rotation. The tags come stamped in sequence out of the 1 to 200 range, so there is no writing to do ahead of calving. Pull them in order, tag in order, write the pairs into the book as you go. The numbers are large and dark on the flag with a long neck below, which is what makes them readable at an angle and at distance. The Z1 one-piece design has no rivet and no back button. Nothing hangs out behind the ear for wire, brush or a bale feeder to catch on. The self-piercing tip makes a small clean incision, and the applicator pin pivots as it goes through so the ear is not held rigid. Management and visual ID tags only.
