Details
A stamped numbered set is the simplest way to run a calf crop. The tags come in sequence out of the 1 to 200 range, so you tag straight down the line and record as you go. Nothing to write out at the kitchen table, and nothing to fade off a tag two winters later. Green makes a good main herd colour. It reads clearly without competing with a bright flag colour, so if you put orange or red on the animals that need watching, a green tag tells you at a glance that everything is normal. Some outfits use it for one year in a five-colour calving-year rotation and can age a cow from the truck. The Z1 is a one-piece tag with no male button and no back piece to snag. The self-piercing tip cuts a small hole that heals snug around the stem, and the pivoting applicator pin means less tearing when a calf ducks in the headgate. These are for herd management and visual identification, not for regulated traceability.
