Yellow is the default for a reason. Black numbers on a yellow tag are about as readable as it gets across a pen or a pasture, and it is the colour most people use for the main herd, keeping brighter or unusual colours for animals that need flagging. These come blank in a 25-pack so you set the numbering. Write them with a livestock tag marker at the house, put the number on both sides, and sort them into the order the calves will run. That way tagging is a squeeze and a step rather than a hunt through a bag with cold hands. The Z1 one-piece design is the practical part. No male button to seat, no back piece to snag on wire, brush or a bale feeder. The self-piercing tip makes a small incision that closes in snug around the stem instead of punching a hole out of the ear, and the applicator pin pivots as it goes through so a calf that throws its head is less likely to tear. Visual management tags, not approved CCIA tags.
