Details
Red is a flag colour on most operations. It goes in the ear of a calf that got treated, a cow that is on the cull list, or a replacement heifer you want to be able to find in a full corral. Because it means something, a red tag saves you a phone call or a look at the book. The tags are blank, 25 to a package, so the numbering system is whatever suits your records. Write them with a livestock tag marker ahead of time and stack them in run order. If you use a second tag colour on the same animal, red on one side and your regular colour on the other reads well from either direction. The Z1 is a one-piece tag applied with a single squeeze, with no rivet or back button to line up. The self-piercing tip makes a small clean incision, the applicator pin pivots as it passes through, and there is nothing sticking out the back of the ear to snag on wire, brush or a bale feeder. Management and visual ID use only.
