The Herdsman is the Z Tags two-piece system: a female tag panel and a male rivet that pushes through the ear and locks into the back of the panel. The rivets come in the bag. It goes on with a universal-style two-piece applicator rather than the one-piece No-Snag tagger, so make sure you have the right tool loaded before you start running calves. The design point on the Herdsman is the wide neck and sloped shoulder where the rivet seats. That shape spreads the load across a bigger area of the panel instead of concentrating it at one small hole, which is where thin two-piece tags usually tear out. It is built as a long-term tag rather than a one-season one. Calf size is the smaller of the two panels and suits calves through to yearlings. Run one colour per calving year, per pasture or per sire group and you can sort a bunch by eye before you ever read a number. These are management and visual identification tags. They do not replace an approved CCIA tag.
