The gap between a reader and a record is where most on-farm data disappears. The tag gets scanned, then somebody means to write down the condition score and the treatment and never does. The XRS2i closes that gap by taking the extra fields on the reader itself, in the alley, at the moment of handling. It records up to 15 customized data fields per animal, whatever those need to be for the operation: breed, sex, date of birth, condition score, treatment. Sessions can be named and edited so a day of work does not end up as one undifferentiated list. Memory holds a million scanned tags, against 250,000 on the simpler SRS2i. Reading performance matches the rest of the range: all ISO HDX and FDX tags, out to about 300 mm (12 in) for HDX and 330 mm (13 in) for FDX, on a 2.7 inch sunlight-viewable colour screen with an alphanumeric keypad for entering data. Bluetooth Class 1 connects it to any Tru-Test EID weigh scale indicator at up to about 100 m (300 ft), and data comes off by Windows PC or an iOS or Android phone. The unit is IP67 rated and weighs about 0.7 kg (1.6 lb), with a battery good for roughly 9.5 hours of continuous reading or 19 hours in single read mode. It ships with a hard carrying case, power adaptor, USB cable and USB flash drive, and carries a two-year warranty. For operations using EID for CCIA traceability, the extra fields mean the tag record and the management record end up being the same record.
