Details
A stick reader spends most of a processing day not being used. Set it on a rail and it goes in the muck, lean it in a corner and somebody knocks it over, carry it and you have one hand instead of two the moment a gate needs shutting. A holster deals with a small problem that comes up forty times an hour. This is a leather holster for Tru-Test XRS-series stick readers, worn on a belt so the reader hangs at the hip and comes to hand without looking for it. Keeping the reader off the ground and out of the manure between animals does more for the life of the unit than any amount of care taken with the case it came in. Leather suits the job because it takes a beating, breaks in to the shape of the reader, and does not go stiff and crack in cold the way some plastics will. It marks and darkens with use, which is normal and does not affect how it holds. The readers themselves are IP67 rated, so the holster is about convenience and wear rather than weather protection. Dry it slowly and away from direct heat if it gets soaked, and treat it occasionally the way you would any working leather.
