Some places have no room for a large panel. A narrow race, a sheep or goat handling setup, a walk-through gate with a post exactly where the antenna wants to go. The small antenna exists for those spots, and for jobs where the tag is going to pass close anyway. It measures 425 by 400 mm with a 10 to 33 mm profile and reads to about 700 mm from a single panel, against roughly 1 m for the large one. Like the large antenna it handles all ISO HDX and FDX-B tags and plugs into an XRP2 panel reader with automatic tuning. The antenna itself does no reading or storing; the panel reader does that. Because the range is shorter, placement matters more. Put it where the animal is committed to a line, so the head passes within a few hundred millimetres of the panel every time. Sheep and goats suit it well since the tag sits naturally low and close. Tall cattle in a wide race are where a small antenna starts missing reads. Two small antennas on the dual antenna adaptor come close to doubling the read distance, which is often a better answer in a tight race than moving up to a large panel that has nowhere to bolt on.
