Weighing lambs or show pigs on a cattle platform is more work than the job deserves. The deck is long enough that the animal wanders off centre, and it takes two people and a pickup to move it. Something one person can carry to the pen and set down changes the whole exercise. The platform is 610 by 1220 mm (24 by 48 in) in aluminum with a non-skid surface, and it weighs about 14 kg (31 lb). Rope handles at each end mean it gets carried rather than dragged. There are no sides, which keeps it light and low, and animals step on without much hesitation. It runs on MP600 load bars, giving a 2000 kg (4400 lb) system. That is far more capacity than this class of stock needs, which is exactly why readings on light animals stay steady. Any Tru-Test indicator will read it, and the S3 is the common pairing for show and small stock work. For show pigs and 4-H projects, weighing weekly on the same setup and the same patch of ground is what makes the numbers comparable week to week. Set it somewhere firm and level, put it in the same place each time, and rate of gain becomes something to act on rather than estimate.
