Not every weighing job needs a database behind it. Sorting a pen of feeders, checking gain on a group, weighing a horse before dosing: what is wanted is a number that settles fast and can be read in a dusty shed at four in the afternoon. The S3 does that and stops there. It has no internal memory, which is deliberate. Weights go over Bluetooth Low Energy to the Data Link or TagMax apps on a phone or tablet, and from there into the Datamars Livestock platform if that is how the operation keeps records. Superdamp III processing settles a moving animal quickly, and the high-contrast display has an LED backlight for dark sheds and failing light. The unit measures 177 by 128 by 50 mm (7 by 5 by 2 in) and weighs 0.55 kg (1.2 lb), in an IP67 enclosure that shrugs off rain and wash-down. The internal battery recharges in about six hours. It works with Tru-Test load bars, most often MP600 bars under an AP600, WP600 or small animal platform. If the operation needs on-board records, sessions stored in the indicator itself, or multi-way drafting, look at the ID5000 or XR5000 instead. The S3 is the right tool when a phone is doing the record keeping and the indicator just has to be quick, tough and easy to hand to somebody else.
