Wide tape and high tension do not mix well without the right fitting. Tape carries its conductors as fine filaments woven into the weave, and folding it through a narrow strain point or over a wire loop breaks those filaments where you cannot see it. The fence goes dead beyond the corner and the tape looks fine. This insulator holds the tape flat and across its full width at the point where the pull is greatest. It takes polytape up to 40 mm (1.5 inches), which is the common wide tape used on horse fence, and it is supplied two to a pack. The distinction worth knowing is between this and a wire end strain insulator. A wire strain fitting has deep narrow grooves designed to seat round wire, and running tape through one gives you a fold and a stress line. Match the insulator to the conductor and both last. Terminate by passing the tape through, doubling it back and buckling it to itself. The tape then carries its own load, the tension is adjustable later without pulling fasteners, and there is no knot to work loose.
