Solar energizers do not fail so much as fade. The panel keeps charging, the unit keeps showing life, but the battery no longer holds enough through a run of dull days and the fence goes weak overnight. Replacing the gel cell restores the unit rather than replacing it. In this country, battery life is the limiting factor on a solar unit. Cold reduces available capacity sharply, and the short days of a prairie December mean a panel that is more than adequate in June is barely keeping up in midwinter. Most people either pull the unit inside for the winter and run mains, or accept that a gel cell that does five seasons of summer grazing might do three if it overwinters on the fence. A sealed gel cell should be brought back to full charge before storage and topped up over winter if the unit is off the fence. A gel cell left flat in the cold is a gel cell you are replacing next spring. This battery is listed for the S250 and S500. Confirm the voltage, capacity and terminal type against your unit's model and serial plate before ordering, particularly on older units.
