Anyone who has let go of a tensioned gate handle knows why this design exists. A conventional handle released under load snaps back down the wire, and it will find a shin, a windshield or a horse. The no-kick pattern controls that release so the handle stays where you put it. Ten to a pack makes sense for an operation with a lot of openings, or for anyone who has learned that gate handles are a consumable. Red keeps them findable in snow and stubble and makes it obvious to anyone unfamiliar with the place where the gate actually is. Fit them so the closed gate has tension but not full stretch. A handle pulled bar-tight in warm weather will be under serious load once everything contracts in a cold snap, which is hard on both the handle and the anchor, and it makes the gate a two-hand job with mitts on. Leave a little slack, hook it so it pulls straight, and keep a spare or two in the truck.
