Details
The 6000 series carries a larger internal lightning rod than the smaller units, which is why it is a different part and not interchangeable with the 1000 to 3000 component. Bigger energizer, bigger surge to shunt. Its job is simple. When a strike or a nearby induced surge comes back down the fence line, the spark gap breaks over and sends that energy to ground rather than letting it into the output stage. It is designed to be consumed, so a rod showing burnt or pitted electrodes has done exactly what it was supposed to do. Replacing it is normal service after a storm season, and it is cheap insurance next to a main module or output transformer. Lightning damage in this part of the country is not rare. A summer storm rolling across open pasture will find a mile of wire on wooden posts every time, so external lightning diverters on the fence and a good ground bed matter as much as the internal rod. This part is listed for the 6000 and 6000i. Confirm against your unit's model and serial plate before ordering, and work on the energizer only with it unplugged.
