Inside these energizers is a spark gap that gives a lightning surge somewhere to go other than through the output circuitry. It is deliberately the cheapest thing in the box, and it is meant to take the damage so the main module does not. When a unit comes in dead after a storm, this is one of the first things a service tech looks at. A rod that has been hit shows pitting and carbon on the electrodes, and swapping it is part of putting the energizer back together properly rather than an optional extra. This part is listed for the 1000, 2000 and 3000 series. Speedrite does not publish a full serial-level fitment table for internal components, so confirm against your unit's model and serial plate before ordering, and if the energizer is a different series get the rod listed for that series instead. Internal repairs on a mains energizer are work for someone competent, with the unit unplugged and the capacitors discharged. If you are not sure, send it in.
