Details
A gate handle is a small part that gets used more than almost anything else on the fence. This one is moulded in red so it stands out against snow and stubble, with an insulated body long enough that your hand stays well clear of the live end. The handle takes the gate wire at one end and hooks into the anchor at the other. Red is worth choosing on a yard gate or a lane that other people use. Hired help and neighbours find a red handle where they will walk past a black one, and that means fewer gates left open and fewer people grabbing the wire instead. Handles are consumables. UV, frost and being driven over eventually get them all, so most operations keep spares in the truck. When you fit one, leave the gate wire long enough to reach the anchor without the handle under constant tension. A handle held at full stretch through a cold snap is a handle that will crack.
