The Speedrite AN20 is a small battery energizer that Speedrite rates to power up to 1 acre. It is the entry point of the range and it is honest about what it is: a unit for a pen, a small paddock, a strip of garden you are keeping deer out of, or a temporary corral at a show or trail ride. Because it runs off its own battery, it goes anywhere. There is no cord, no panel, nothing to mount. Set it beside the fence, run the leads, and put in a ground rod. That makes it useful for the jobs where dragging out a mains energizer is more work than the fence itself — weaning a couple of calves, keeping a horse off a hay stack, fencing a dugout. Be realistic about its limits. One acre assumes a short, clean run with grass off the wire and a proper ground rod. It will not hold a quarter section, and it will not push through a line lying in green growth or under drifted snow. Cold also cuts battery output, so check it more often through winter than you would in summer. If you need more than a small pen, look at the AN90 or step up to a unigizer.
